Why it lives in the tab

PNG and WebP-lossless do the same job — pixel-perfect, alpha-supporting, lossless image storage. WebP just does it ~30% better, because its compressor is younger and smarter. The conversion is a pure win on file size with zero quality cost. We do it in the tab so the file never leaves your device.

Frequently asked

Will the WebP be lossless?

Yes — we default to lossless WebP for PNG sources. Pixel-for-pixel exact, with alpha intact.

How is WebP smaller than PNG?

WebP's lossless compressor is more sophisticated than PNG's DEFLATE. Same pixels, fewer bytes.

Does transparency carry over?

Yes. WebP supports proper alpha; PNG transparency converts cleanly.

Will browsers display WebP?

Every modern browser handles WebP natively (since ~2020). Older clients may not.

Lossy WebP for photos?

We default to lossless to match the PNG source. Drop into Artboard for lossy control.
