QR codes are everywhere: restaurant menus, business cards, event tickets, WiFi networks. Creating one used to require paid software or sketchy websites that watermark your output. Now you can generate them instantly in your browser — for free, with no signup, and no limitations.
How to create a basic QR code
The simplest use case: turn a URL into a scannable QR code.
https://yourwebsite.com)That's it. No watermark, no account, no "premium tier" upsell. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser using the qrcode library — your content is never sent to a server.
Custom colors
Most QR generators give you a black-and-white code. Morph lets you customize both the foreground and background colors. Want a blue QR code on a transparent background? White on dark? Brand colors? Just pick them from the color pickers.
One caveat: make sure there's enough contrast between the foreground and background. QR scanners need to distinguish between the dark and light modules. A dark blue on black won't scan reliably.
Error correction levels
QR codes have built-in error correction that lets them scan even when partially damaged or obscured. Morph lets you choose between four levels:
- L (Low, 7%): Smallest QR code. Use when the code will always be displayed perfectly (screens, digital media).
- M (Medium, 15%): Default. Good balance for most uses.
- Q (Quartile, 25%): Use when the code might get slightly damaged (printed materials).
- H (High, 30%): Most resilient. Use when you want to add a logo overlay on top of the QR code — the high error correction compensates for the obscured modules.
WiFi QR codes
One of the most useful QR code applications: sharing your WiFi password without spelling it out. Guests scan the code and connect automatically.
Tape it near your router, put it on a fridge, or include it in your Airbnb listing. Anyone with a phone camera can scan it to connect instantly — no typing the password.
vCard QR codes (contact cards)
Instead of handing someone a paper business card, show them a QR code that adds your contact info directly to their phone.
When scanned, the phone prompts to save the contact with all the fields pre-filled. No manual typing.
Reading QR codes
Morph also includes a QR code reader. Upload an image containing a QR code, or use your device camera to scan one in real time. The decoded content is displayed instantly. If the QR code contains a URL, it's shown as a clickable link.
When to use PNG vs. SVG
- PNG: Best for digital use — websites, social media, presentations. Fixed resolution, so choose a larger size (512px or 1024px) if you need to print it.
- SVG: Best for print — business cards, posters, signage. Vector format scales to any size without losing quality. File size is also smaller.
