Flowcut Quick-Start

Flowcut, in detail. Quick-start guide for the browser-native video editor — import, cut, color grade, export, ship.

Edit video directly in your browser — no downloads, no uploads, no account required. This guide walks you through your first edit in Flowcut, from importing media to exporting a finished video.

1. Importing Media

1. Open Flowcut — click Flowcut in the dock, or go to morph.cool/flashcut.
2. Add your files — drop a video onto the editor, click + Add in the Media Library, or use the drop zone at the bottom of the media panel.
3. Supported formats — MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, and MKV are all supported.

Imported files appear in the Media Library on the left. Use the search bar to filter by name, or switch between All, Video, Audio, and Image tabs.

2. Timeline Basics

The timeline runs along the bottom of the editor. It’s where you arrange and trim clips.

Clips and tracks

• Add a clip — drag a file from the Media Library onto the timeline.
• Track types — Video (cyan), Audio (green), and Text (magenta) clips are color-coded so you can tell them apart at a glance.
• Track controls — each track has an eye icon (visibility toggle) and a lock icon (prevents accidental edits).

Playhead

• The red playhead shows the current position in your edit.
• Drag it to scrub through the timeline, or click anywhere on the ruler to jump to that point.
• A timecode overlay in the top-left of the preview shows the exact position in HH:MM:SS:FF format.

Timeline bar

• Magnetic timeline — clips snap to each other’s edges. Toggle with the magnet icon.
• Snap to grid — aligns clips to ruler divisions.
• Zoom — adjust from 20% to 500% using the slider or +/− buttons.

3. Editing

Trim

1. Move the playhead to where you want the video to start and press I (trim in).
2. Move to where you want it to end and press O (trim out).

Cut at playhead

Press ⌘+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) to split a clip at the current playhead position. Each cut creates a new clip you can move, delete, or reorder independently.

Delete a clip

Select a clip and press Delete or Backspace. If you delete the last remaining clip, the editor reverts to the full trim range.

Reorder clips

When two or more clips exist, arrow buttons appear in the top bar. Select a clip, then click the left or right arrow to reposition it.

Undo

Press ⌘+Z (or Ctrl+Z) to undo any edit. Undo works for cuts, deletes, reorders, and trim changes.

4. Speed Control

Constant speed

Pick from six playback speeds. Audio pitch is preserved so voices still sound natural.

Use [ and ] to step through speeds, or \ to reset to 1x.

Speed ramping

Speed ramping lets you vary the speed within a single clip — slow down for dramatic moments, speed up for transitions.

1. Click the Ramp toggle next to the speed pills.
2. A curve editor appears below the speed controls. Click the line to add a keyframe.
3. Drag keyframes up or down to change speed at that point (0.25x–4x range).
4. Double-click a keyframe to remove it (at least one must remain).

5. Color Grading

Manual sliders

Open the color grading panel from the toggle button in the top bar. Five sliders adjust the look in real time:

Double-click any slider to reset it to default.

LUT presets

LUT (Look-Up Table) files apply cinematic color grades in one click. Flowcut supports the industry-standard .cube format.

• Built-in presets — Cinematic (warm shadows, cool highlights), Vintage (desaturated warmth), and High Contrast (deep blacks, punchy colors).
• Import your own — load any .cube file from any desktop editor.
• Toggle on/off — instantly compare graded vs. ungraded.
• Replace or remove — swap to a different LUT or clear it entirely.

6. Color Scopes

Professional monitoring tools for evaluating your color grade. Open the scopes panel from the toggle button in the top bar.

Switch modes using the Wave / Par / Hist / Vec tabs. Scopes update in real time during playback at up to 10 fps.

7. Audio

Volume control

Use the volume slider in the transport bar (below the preview) to adjust playback volume. The current level is shown as a percentage.

Toggle audio meters from the Window menu. Vertical bar meters show real-time levels for left and right channels:

• Green (0–65%) — safe level.
• Yellow (65–85%) — approaching loud. Watch for peaks.
• Red (85–100%) — clipping risk. Lower the volume.

dB markers at 0, −6, −12, and −∞ help you gauge levels. The meters run at 60 fps for responsive feedback.

8. Export

Click the green Export button in the toolbar to open the export panel. Pick a preset and Flowcut handles resolution, codec, and bitrate.

9. Keyboard Shortcuts

On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl instead of ⌘.

10. Known Limitations

• Maximum 3 clips — you can cut a video into up to 3 segments.
• GIF two-pass — two-pass palette optimization may not work in all browser FFmpeg versions. Flowcut falls back to single-pass automatically.
• Multi-clip GIF — GIF export with multiple clips skips two-pass optimization.
• Color grading preview vs. export — the browser preview uses CSS filters while export uses FFmpeg. Slight differences are normal.
• LUT preview at 4K — real-time LUT preview is CPU-bound. Smooth at 1080p, may drop at 4K. Export is unaffected.
• Audio meter approximation — left/right channels use frequency-based splitting, which is an approximation.
• Processing speed — everything runs on your device. Close other tabs to free up memory for longer videos.
